Patrick Rochon

Patrick is an award-winning Light Painting photographer who has been doing light writing for 19 years so he has alot of experience.  He won First prize at a Nikon Camera contest in Japan. Patrick has done Light Painting photography for fashion and rock magazines, CD jackets, DVDs, posters, internet and others. He has done light writing for the famous car making company such as Toyaota and Honda.

These are two of his photos, I believe the medium may be digital as the light in the picture which is covering the bodys of both pictures are quite low light conditions so i presume the light writer has used a low shutter speed or bulb setting and quite a small appature of F16.

I really like this as i think it is very fascinating to look at. The way he has used colours is also another intrest as the pictures really stand out with the colour because the colours give a more happy and mind calming feeling to the picture.

The subject this artist studies is people in different sort of actions and poses.

Im going to try and use this effect in my own twilight photogrpahy. i will need to use diffrent colours for each part to produce a image near enough like the ones this artist does. I believe i am going to try the first image as i really like it the way the women is nude but its not pornogrpahy or anything as the way he has made her covered in light has made the image beautiful to look at.

MARK ROTHKO

Mark Rothko was a Russian painter,
He was classified as a abstract expressionist which means it was an american war post.- world war II environment. He did abstract paintings such as these.

I'm going to be honest I don't like this at all as I think it is very bland and not interesting, However I like the way the colours go in this painting as they really mix together nicely, I also have to consider the fact these are absolutely huge and apparently are ravishing in real life. It is also in a museum of modern art.

I like this one as it is quite interesting as it shows the tone of the shades black and grey. it also has fascinating  patterns in side the grey and it is very abstract. Again though i dislike the way it is very bland and seems very simple to do.l

The Technique he is using is abstract as you cant quite make out what he is trying to show. The medium would be painting with diffrent colours.

shoot 3

This is my shoot 3 I went for a more of a abstract effect in the pictures bellow as I like painting with light.
I was inspired by the artist Sola as i like his paintings as they are very abstract and wanted to do my own

These were my pictures for shoot 3, I used light writing again as i liked the first shoot and prefered to do more light writing other than the other shoot i done with the beach.

To do the pictures i changed my camera to manual and changed the appature to F16 and the shutter speed to bulb.  I then decided that White LED and Red LED lights were quite boring so I took a idea from my teacher and I took some wrappers of a particular type of chocolate called Quality Streets. As crazy as it sounds the wrapper when placed over the light changes the colour of the light to the colour of the wrapper you have put on the LED white light.

Using this method I went around outside and inside finding objects that looked very interesting to photography with the different Lights. I Have many random but interesting displays around my household that i thought at night with the coloured LED lights would look quite pretty. So Using the wrapper of the Quality Streets I held the camera button down and painted the pattern on some of my objects with different colour lights which gave me some fascinating  results.

I like this because I like the way the colours are painted and mixed together to show a real abstract effect in the photo. Also the way the light Paintings of the objects around my house have become from a normal piece on my wall to a abstracted photo with some really good quality's such as the beautiful light that is being produced from the LED light.

However I dislike the way that some of the images have a slight blur to them due to camera shake but that makes it more interesting and abstract despite my criticism of the image

ENLARGEMENTS.

These are both one of my favourite photos from this shoot (top and bottom picture) I have produced as it has a beautiful ad sensational effect of the light shining in all different ways. It also gives a bright and happy feeling to the picture as to the way the colours mix with each other.

Thursday, 5 January 2012

I found this whilst looking at Google searches for light graffiti. I like it as it is very different and unusual. it looks like it has been montaged but im not sure completely. its a weird sort of thing because all the lights are going in different directions

Shoot 2

For this shoot I have decided to completely go with a new style and instead of using light writing I went for another idea which was landscape. I went to the beach to take these, i like it as it looks quite different and a lot of the photos have a picture of a fence so when you look at the picture it looks like the person being me was alone and trapped in between gates. The shoot is very dark and mysterious in some of the pictures as well, again i like this as i think it showing the feeling of being an outcast from the world in which we live. Overall i dislike this type of photography and may consider light writing again for shoot 3 as i wanted to try this one but did not like it a lot.

My outcomes were pretty poor overall as the wind was extremely high during the holidays and in some of the picture it is as if the wind go in my pictures as I have camera shake in a lot of the pictures, however some of them im quite pleased of as they bring a emotional spirit to the picture for example Loneliness and fear

These where my favourite outcomes from this shoot. To do this I used the auto effect on the camera and went out at 5 am. I used the flash as it enhances the pictures light in the foreground and contrasts the images background.

Twilight

We have Been asked to do a project over the Christmas Period based on the setting of Twilight.
In Class we did a mind map of all sorts of things you may find in the project example are like trees, lights, blood, night, darkness, fear, etc

this is shoot 1 I did part of this outside and part of it inside. i did not edit the lights on the pictures bellow i changed my camera settings and it gave me this cool effect from the lamps as i took the picture, its looks quite good as it looks like the light is being sucked out of the lamps.

This is a contact sheet from my first shoot of some of my results from the twilight 1st shoot. My plan was to use a slow shutter speed to show the light changing in the picture due to the movement of the blurs, but i decided to change the plan a little and instead of just using light i decided to start using a bit of landscape of empty streets with the light effect. These are some of my results from the 1st shoot. the camera was set to manual mode and what i did was i put the cameras appature to F16 and i changed the shutter speed to slow so it had time to capture the image bluring and causing a effect of light graffiti in my pictures.

ENLARGEMENTS OF A FEW IMAGES

These pictures was originally a car light but I rotated the camera 90 degrees clockwise then 10 seconds after I went anticlockwise 90 degrees. The shutter speed was 20 seconds in total and the aperture was F16. I like this style of work as it is very interesting and it makes the person looking at the picture wonder how did he do that.  Also the way this came out of rotating a camera taking a picture of the car came to this picture is quite amazing.

Again this is another picure using the same settings but instead of the car it is street lamps.

I then Went Inside and made my own dark room by closing all sources of light and I got my brother to stand in the middle so I could go over him in a white LED light and red LED light i acquired from a bike.
