PLAN for shoot 2

Location- Hayling Island. On the streets near my house.
                Havant- Town centre
                Portsmouth- Gunwhalf

Technical- Tripod, Camera Settings

Subject- Beach in low light conditions

Style- low light condition pictures 

I will be photographing my second shoot on the beach of hayling island and I will be going really early so it is low light conditions.

Twilight

We have Been asked to do a project over the Christmas Period based on the setting of Twilight.
In Class we did a mind map of all sorts of things you may find in the project example are like trees,lights,blood,night,darkness,fear, etc


this is shoot 1 I did part of this outside and part of it inside. i did not edit the lights on the pictures bellow i changed my camera settings and it gave me this cool effect from the lamps as i took the picture, its looks quite good as it looks like the light is being sucked out of the lamps.

This is a contact sheet from my first shoot of some of my results from the twilight 1st shoot. My plan was to use a slow shutter speed to show the light changing in the picture due to the movement of the blurs, but i decided to change the plan a little and instead of just using light i decided to start using a bit of landscape of empty streets with the light effect. These are some of my results from the 1st shoot. the camera was set to manual mode and what i did was i put the cameras appature to F16 and i changed the shutter speed to slow so it had time to capture the image bluring and causing a effect of light graffiti in my pictures. 

ENLARGEMENTS OF A FEW IMAGES

These pictures was originally a car light but I rotated the camera 90 degrees clockwise then 10 seconds after I went anticlockwise 90 degrees. The shutter speed was 20 seconds in total and the aperture was F16. I like this style of work as it is very interesting and it makes the person looking at the picture wonder how did he do that.  Also the way this came out of rotating a camera taking a picture of the car came to this picture is quite amazing.

Again this is another picure using the same settings but instead of the car it is street lamps.

I then Went Inside and made my own dark room by closing all sources of light and I got my brother to stand in the middle so I could go over him in a white LED light and red LED light i acquired from a bike. 

Mari Mahr

Describe How Mari Mahr Makes Her Images

Mari Mahr Takes a picture of a certain background for a series on a Digital camera. She then finds objects she can use for her photography. After this she prints out her photograph of the backgrounnd and using a copystand she places the objects onto the background image and retakes the photograph, she then prints off her finished design.

List the objects which you are going to use.

My necklace as it is a funny shape and it looks quite nice so i will use it and base my photo on the theme star struck.

Explain what Your Mart Mahr Style Photograph is about.

My photo is going to be about the term Star struck, I will have someone looking the other way with the shy in the background and then i will place the necklace star in the sky as if it ias coming towards the person.

Experimental Characteristic Sheet

What we did: Our Photography Teacher Split Us into groups to try out the three techniques above. We then went out and did these experiments.

1. Light Writing 

Out of the images above I liked the people one as i thought it was the most effective and most creative. I also liked the star one as it came out not too bad at all and still was a good image. Im not to keen on the Christmas tree As although the shape is there it still is not a very decent shot of the light produced 

STRONG IMAGES 

The technique was called Streaks of light. To do the following above we set the aperture on our cameras to the setting F.16 and we also changed the ISO to 100. The shutter was first on 20 seconds but to do some of the images above e.g the person above, we had to set it on bulb, this means that the image will stay open until you let your finger off the button .

The effects that we as a group made were some wonderful shapes but we were also quite creative and I told them to try a person out as In my graphics class we were looking at a artist called Michael Bosanko  who is a light graffiti artist who does people like our one in his pictures. 

The good things about our pictures were they were time consumed effectively and some of them were very well done, also they have a very creative atmosphere to some of them and are diffrent to your everyday pictures you see today.

However we could of improved on this technique if we had a wider range of colours like red. green etc not just yellow and also a bigger area as it was hard to produce the shapes due to the size of the area we had to work in.

FINAL PRINTS :

To evaluate this technique I believe the whole concept of our objective to produce pictures with streaks of light went very effectively and we achieved that objective, I also believe that some of the pictures came out very well and look very interesting and makes you wonder how they did that when you look at them. However Most of the pictures did not turn out as well as I thought they would due to the space we had inside the room, if i was to do this again in the college i would ask the theatre if I could have a little time in there as it can go pitch black plus its extremely big so it would be the right amount of space to do funky and creative pictures.

2. Panning

The contact sheets above are our pictures from using the process panning however they did not turn out as good as we expected.

The technique we were given was panning, to make this tecknique we went out onto the road behind the college and set the aperture to automatic and the ISO to 400. we also changed the shutter to 1/8 but we also realised that it was not good enough and should of been 1/16 instead. We also set the camera to program mode.

Overall the only thing I think went well was our determination to get a good panning image as most of the images were all blurred, our aim was to try and get a image that blurred the background but not the car moving, sadly we failed as we were not given the right settings from the other group as it would seem.

FINAL PRINTS 

These were the final prints as they were all not very good other than these too as you can sort of get the idea of what we were trying to do from these.

To evaluate panning we found that we need to have the shutter at 1/16 or more to get the perfect picture. we also need to think of where we are to go next time for the producing of the panning images as the road was very busy and it was extremely hard to just try and get one car in the picture as you can see with our outcomes, another thing that we need to improve on is making sure or double checking with our photography teacher that we have been given the right information from the other group on how to process this technique this will ensure that we have the perfect info to make the perfect picture for the technique. When it was our turn to tell the other group about this technique I was the speaker and i found it extremely hard to explain as we did not get the results we wanted whilst doing out own experimental pictures



3. Freeze Movement

These are the contact sheets for the technique of freezing movement.

STRONG PICTURES

To do this technique We went to the skate park and took pictures of skaters with a shutter speed of 1/1000 and the camera on program mode, we also changed the ISO to 400.

What went well was in all of these picture they are all decent quality and pretty good images. Our timing and accuracy of every shot was accurate and the angel of the shot.

What didant go so well was trying to capture fast objects like birds as they just flew off when you tried to get a shot of them.

FINAL PRINTS

To evaluate the Technique Freezing movement, we as a group found that the camera settings provided by the other group were not as good as they could of been. We changed the settings to improve our photos. we used a action shot which is when we capture the movement, this gave us as a group in all our photos a realistic feeling towards our photos. I think what we all liked was the way we came up with the idea of the skate park as the stunts pulled by the skaters and bmxs make our photos quite unique in a sense compared to the others, what we think for next time to improve is going straight to the skate park to do the photos as we were late for lesson when we did these.



TO CONCLUDE THE TECHNIQUES

To evaluate overall of the techniques my favourite technique was the light writing as it was extremely fun and we were pretty good at it. I also think if i was to do this again i would use much more coloured lights as it would really give a effect and i may use objects too so it shows more experimentation in my work as a photographer

I didan't like the panning technique as we did not do so well in it but if we got the right information i think it could of been much better having said that it was quite interesting to see the technique as i did like the look of the other groups pictures from the technique although ours failed I think I will try the technique again to see if i can comprehend the technique.

The freeze movement technique was interesting but not to my taste as I honestly found it quite simple and not complex enough for me to like it, it was a good way to experiment however as I now know an ideal place to go if i was going to do a freeze movement in my final piece.

Image Persistance

"Persistence of Vision" refers to the phenomenon where the retina retains an image for a brief split-second after the image was actually seen, and lends itself to animation by creating the illusion of motion when we view images in closely-timed sequence to one another.

My final Piece

The Picture you can see is the final piece for my portrait project, however it is no where near how i thought it would turn out due to a number of things, the project picture has no background to it as the photobooth didant do as i thought it would and instead of me being able to take a picture with a background for the mask it wouldant let me as my face had to be in the photo outlines on the booth in order for the screen to take the picture so i could not have a background due to this error. the second problem i had was the photobooth did not take black and white photos so i had to do a coloured picture for my final piece which doesant look like the style of Ralph Eugine Meatyard. If i was to inprove the picture i will find another photobooth not like the company photome that lets me put other objects inside the booth and mainly lets me print it in black and white imagery. But overall i am happy with the final outcome as it is a sucessful print with the mask and it does show a sense of mysteriosity however if i could of done the other things in this photobooth it would of made the picture more interesting to look at
